Roger Federer won the Dubai Championships for a record sixth time Saturday, beating Tomas Berdych, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Federer’s
title, the 78th of his career and his sixth in Dubai in the last 12
years, extended his record of consecutive years with at least one event
win to 14. The tournament victory was Federer’s first since last spring,
when he won in Halle, Germany, for his only title of 2013.
Berdych’s loss ended the longest winning streak of his career at 11 matches.

Top-seeded Tommy Haas retired with a shoulder injury and lost, 6-3,
3-2, to Paolo Lorenzi in the Brazil Open semifinals in São Paulo.
Lorenzi, 32, ranked 114th, will play in his first ATP final against
Federico Delbonis.

Klara Zakopalova won her third WTA singles title, beating Garbine
Muguruza, 4-6, 7-5, 6-0, in the Brazil Cup final in Florianópolis. The
32nd-ranked Zakopalova won 11 straight games, securing her first trophy
